Fire Damage Refurbishment to Elizabethan Listed Building
Surveyors: ‘John C Woodroe FRICS’ -19 North Pallant, Chichester, West Sussex, PO19 1TQ
The project involved erecting a temporary roof to maintain the fabric of the building after major fire damage.Sections of the roof structure had to be rebuilt. But the greater part which was Oak was heavily charred, although structurally sound could be retained. All of the roof members were sand blasted to remove about 3/4mm of charring so that the majority of the original structure could be saved. In some instances repairs had to be carried out to the king post trusses which were suffering from historic deterioration exacerbated by the fire damage. Internal reconstruction was carried out retaining the original period features.
